Here are some tips for Telling Time, which aligns with Texas state standards:
Telling Time
Telling time is important! And to tell time, you need to know
how to read a clock.
The hour hand is the shorter hand. The minute hand is the longer hand. |
Hour hand
For example, at 3:00, the hour hand will point directly at the 3. When the hour hand is between 3 and 4, the hour is 3 o'clock. Finally, at 4:00, the hour hand will point directly at the 4. |
The minute hand travels around the entire clock in one hour. One hour is 60 minutes. There are 5 minutes between each number.
3:00 The minute hand points straight up at 12. |
3:15 The minute hand points at 3. |
3:30 The minute hand points straight down at 6. |
3:45 The minute hand points at 9. |
3:05 The minute hand points at 1. |
3:06 The minute hand points a little past 1. |
3:10 The minute hand points at 2. |
