Mastery-Based Teaching Through Adaptive Practice

Developed by MIT graduates since 2003, MathScore helps students acquire a deep understanding of math by providing adaptive math practice that functions like self-guided lessons. MathScore is fun, but the real magic is the improved confidence and grittiness that MathScore instills. For any important math concept, we help students achieve mastery in 3 phases:

  1. Develop relatable, definition-level understanding: Often using visuals, we help a student understand the basic meaning of a concept, such as the meaning of addition, the meaning of a fraction, etc.
  2. Develop computational excellence: Using adaptive techniques, we efficiently develop strong computational skills. For example, we are tremendously effective at helping students learn their math facts by creatively honing certain subsets of the math facts.
  3. Develop analytical understanding: This is the ultimate goal, which is to apply the concept in real world situations. This becomes possible after a student achieves a strong definition-level understanding as well as computational excellence. Typically we will use word problems or graphs to hone this ability.
