Here are some tips for Place Value, which aligns with Ohio state standards:

Place Value

2 is in the thousands place,

3 is in the hundreds place,

5 is in the tens place,

and 8 is in the ones place.

There are 3 ways that you can express a number.
  1. Standard form:   2358
  2. Expanded form:   2000 + 300 + 50 + 8
  3. Word form:   two thousand three hundred fifty-eight

Example 1: Identifying values

Type the value of the red digit. Example: 4,384 = 4,000
1.   960
For 960, 0 is in the ones place.
In the expanded form, 960 = 900 + 60 + 0
So the value is 0.

2.   787
For 787, 7 is in the hundreds place.
In the expanded form, 787 = 700 + 80 + 7
So the value is 700.

Example 2: Number forms

Type each number in standard form. Example: 2000 + 100 + 50 + 3 = 2,153
1.   4,000 + 200 + 80 + 7

2.   seven thousand five hundred seventy

Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones
seven thousand five hundred seventy
7,000 500 70 0
This means 7,000 + 500 + 70 + 0 = 7,570

3.   three thousand twenty-six

Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones
three thousand   twenty six
3,000 000 20 6
This means 3,000 + 000 + 20 + 6 = 2,026
