Here are some tips for Basic Distributive Property, which aligns with Hawaii state standards:
Basic Distributive Property
The distributive property helps break down multiplication equations.
= + 4 × 13 = 4 × 10 + 4 × 3 = 40 + 12 = 52
Example 1:
You can also break down the first term.
14 × 8 = (10 + 4) × 8 = (10 × 8) + (4 × 8) = 80 + 32 = 112
Example 2:
The distributive property is true for subtraction too.
6 × 19 = 6 × (20 - 1) = (6 × 20) - (6 × 1) = 120 - 6 = 114
