What is "change"?
For example, you go to the toy store and buy a puzzle. The puzzle costs $3.50. If you pay with a $5 bill, you will get money back. Change is the money you get back.


Example 1: Subtraction

Calculate the correct amount of change. Sample answer: $3.78
1 pencil costs $0.58. You pay $5. How much change should you get back?

Use long subtraction to calculate the answer.
