Integer Addition

This topic covers the addition of positive and negative numbers.

A number line helps you see how integers are added.
On a number line,
• when you add positive integers, move to the right.
• when you add negative integers, move to the left.

3 + ^-5

a. Start at ⁺3 on the number line

b. From ⁺3, move 5 to the left to add ^-5
You end up at ^-2

Negative + Positive

^-3 + 4

b. From ^-3, move 4 to the right to add ⁺4
